G-Whiz

G-WHIZ helps you manage the files on your hard disk and
diskettes.  This program shows you a menu of all the files on a
given drive or directory.  You use the cursor keys to move around
freely in the list, marking the files you want to process.
G-WHIZ can then perform any one of four functions on those files:
copying or moving them to another drive or directory, deleting
the marked files, or printing copies of the files complete with
headings and page breaks!

G-WHIZ saves you from using the DOS commands on each file you
want to process.  And G-WHIZ has many features that make your
work easier!  For example, the menu of files can be sorted on
either the files' names or their extensions.  While you are
marking files, pressing a function key shows you how many files
you have marked, and how much space they use.

G-Spell

At last!  Here's a spelling checker that everyone can afford!
G-SPELL reads your ASCII text file,  and looks up each word in
its 50,000 word dictionary.  When G-SPELL finds a misspelling,
you are shown that word in context, then asked to either accept
the word as is, or correct the spelling using G-SPELL's built-in
editor!  When the document has been proofed, a corrected copy is
written back to disk.

G-SPELL has features that make your work even easier.  G-SPELL
allows you to add new words to its dictionary, so you can

Crypt

Ever wish you could protect your files from prying eyes?  CRYPT
can be used to ensure the privacy of your programs and data files
by encrypting them into an unreadable form.  And you alone know
the keywords needed to restore the files to their original
contents.

Here's how the CRYPT filter works.   Your diary could be
protected by invoking CRYPT with one or more passwords.  For
example, you could use "mary had a cat" as the key sequence.
Crypt would take your diary file and encode it.  When you want to
restore your diary to a readable form, just invoke CRYPT again,
giving it the same sequence!

CRYPT can be used for even greater security through multiple
encryptions.  For example, you could encode a database two or
three times, each time using a different key sequence!  To
restore the original data, just issue the same encrypting
commands again, in any order.  When the last key has been used,
your original file will have been restored!

Browse

How often have you wanted to scan through a document or text file
without loading your word processor?  BROWSE lets you look around
in your ASCII files with simple commands - but without the danger
of damaging the information you have stored there!  Press the
'HOME' key, and you jump to the top of your file.  The 'END' key
takes you to the bottom.  'PgUp' and 'PgDn' move through the file
a screen at a time!  And the cursor keys move up, down, left, and
right, so you can view lines longer than the width of your
screen!

And BROWSE can use all of your computer's memory to hold your
text file during viewing.  That means you can look through large
files, and it's a snap to jump to the end of you file and back!

G-Direct

Here are three utility programs that fill in the gaps in the DOS
directory reporting functions.  L, USAGE, and FREE help put
directory information at your fingertips!  The first program,  L,
lists the directory of your hard disk or diskettes.  But L goes
beyond DOS by providing listings sorted on file name, extension,
date, or size!  And since L is a filter, you can send its output
into a file or pipe it into another program!

The utility program USAGE shows you how much disk space is used
by a set of files.  You specify a list of files or 'wildcard'
search strings, and USAGE returns the total space they occupy.
This is great for determining how much space you will need for
copying groups of files to a diskette.

The FREE utility shows you how much disk space is free on a given
drive.  You simply tell FREE the letter of a drive and FREE
reports back on the number of bytes that are available there for
your files.

Diskmate

Here are two little programs that will save you a bunch of
typing!  MULTCOPY and MULTDEL have an advantage over their rival
DOS commands, COPY and ERASE.  With COPY and ERASE, you can only
specify one file at a time for copying or deletion, or a group of
files that can be defined with a single 'wildcard' argument.  But
MULTCOPY and MULTDEL let you list a whole string of file names on
one command line!

After you've given MULTCOPY or MULTDEL your list of files, the
programs go to work and process each file in turn.  As each one
is copied or deleted, the programs report back on their progress!
And if you see that you have made a mistake, you can stop either
program at any time with a single keystroke!

over and over when it comes time to clean up your diskettes or

Counters

How many times have you had to count the number of words in an
article or report?  TC is just the program for you!  TC takes
your document and counts how many words and lines appear in the
text.  This is a job that computers are better at than humans!

Also included in this package is the program WORDFREQ, which is
used to analyze a piece of writing.  WORDFREQ reads your text
file and produces an alphabetical list of the individual words
that were used.  Each word is displayed with the number of times
it was found in your document.  This helps you discover those
over-used words unique to your own writing!  Optionally, the
frequency count can be turned off, leaving just a sorted list of
the unique words in your file.  This can help you improve your
vocabulary!  Since WORDFREQ is a filter, its output can be routed
to another file or program for additional processing!

This package includes two programs to help you display your
computer files in handy formats.  The DUMP utility reads your
file, and displays each character in hexadecimal format, with
regular ASCII characters shown on the side.  The SHOWABLE program
reads in a file, then displays only the printable characters it
finds.  Any non-printable characters are displayed as blanks.

Programmers can use DUMP to explore 'binary' files, learning the
exact contents of every byte.  And since DUMP is a filter, its
output can be sent to another file, the printer, or into another
program for further processing.  And all without danger of
changing the original file.

SHOWABLE lets you examine a file without sorting through strange
displays of graphics characters, blinking colors, and smiling
faces!  And SHOWABLE can optionally send its output to another
file, instead of displaying the listing on the screen.  These two
programs help you get a good look at your disk files!

Slicers

Here's a real bargain:  four programs for the price of one!  The
SLICER utilities let you 'cut' your ASCII files in different
ways.  The CHUNK program takes your file and breaks it into
smaller parts based on line counts you supply.  If you have a
file that is too large to edit with your word processor, you
could use CHUNK to break the file into two or more pieces!  Each
of these parts could then be processed individually, like
horizontal slices of the original file.

The PULLCOL utility lets you extract a set of 'columns' from each
line of a file.  For example, PULLCOL could read your input file,
and copy columns 10 through 16 of each line to an output file.
With PULLCOL, you can cut a vertical slice out of your file.

The PRINTL program allows you to extract every n'th line from a
file.  For example, if you have created a file of invoice forms,
and the total amount of each invoice is on one specific line of
each invoice, PRINTL could give you a new file that contains only
those lines with the totals!  Lots of thin slices from your
file...

The last program, TRUNCATE, will trim every line in a file to a
given length.

Blockers

These two programs, LAMINATE and COLUMNS, help you manipulate
preset columns of text.  The COLUMNS utility can reformat a list
into several vertical columns.  This is great for creating
abbreviated directory displays, or multi-column lists of any
type!  The COLUMNS program is a filter, so its input and output
files can be specified by DOS redirection commands!

LAMINATE is great for preparing newsletters, or any application
where you want two neat columns of text assembled from different
input files.  This program works on two input files.  The lines
of both files are 'laminated' together, side by side, into a
single output file.  And LAMINATE is loaded with options!  You
can specify a truncation width for each line, and you can control
the column where you want the right-side lines to start.  You can
even specify a separation character between the left and right
sides of the output file.
